840 hours/year, not counting time for meetings, assemblies, preparation for meetings, personal study and a bunch of other things related to the religion. That's a full time job, completely wasted. How can anyone defend organized religion anymore? It sucks the blood out of society and those who have decided to be productive. -

If we survive 4 years of Trump, then Oprah should be an improvement.
Just like Trump, she is also a very successful business woman, far more popular TV celebrity and far more stable genius than Trump. She is also a self made millionaire who didn't inherit a penny, as Trump did. However, she is not qualified for the office of POTUS... but now that the standards are so low, why not? Imagine, a black woman president. Even after Obama (half black man), that's a big jump. She has my vote just for the novelty of being a first in two categories (black and woman) and overall a very likeable person

Live in southern California, where this time of year temperatures are generally mildly cold (45-75F), but real estate prices are brutally high...why that is you may ask.
In any given weekend, if I want the beach I only have to drive for 30 minutes. If I want the mountains and snow, I only have to drive for 50 minutes. If I want the desert, I just walk to it. If I want the forest, I just drive for 60 minutes. If I want to see Mickey Mouse, just drive for an hour.
It all sounds good... doesn't it?... until you have to go to work 20 miles away and takes you 90 minutes to get there, and ninety minutes to come back... five days a week.

Calling Cofty and others regarding evolution
by dubstepped inso i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.
i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.
i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

dubstepped: "Why only those things and not something else?"
Natural selection is the answer. There has been many, many "something elses", they are only good enough to last one or few generations.
I will give you my understanding in a nutshell. For me evolution is essentially constant change, especially In our DNA (mutations). It's almost like dropping a bunch of coins on the floor repeatedly. You are bound to see every time a different distribution of coins. That's because it's practically impossible to replicate the conditions of the event every time. In the case of evolution also every time that there's a new generation is bound to be different from the previous one, but it becomes increasingly noticeable because, unlike coins, life multiplies. So from this practical observation, it's rather easy for to accept, even be fascinated, by a simple fact of life; the only constant is change itself.

US violent crimes and murders rose in 2016, the FBI says
by Simon ini can't remember the exact topic but i think a few people predicted the same thing - that the blm movement would cause an increase in violent deaths of young black men, ultimately doing more harm than good.. and so it has: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41391333.
an 8.6% rise in the homicide rate is pretty appalling by any standard unless it started at very low levels, which we know it didn't.. this is why i object to movements based on false premises and invented media lies / selective coverage.
the people who suffer the most are not the ones marching in the streets.

I have a better theory, or at least just as good. What has increased crime is the lack of good movies recently. People are bore to death because theaters have nothing good to show and decide to commit crimes instead. I see the cause-and-effect connection and that's enough for me. I don't have to back it up with reliable data or any studies.

Don't you think that some people are just better off within the org?
by paradiseseeker inthis is my first post, i will introduce myself later.
first of all, i must say that english is not my mother tongue (i'm spanish), so excuse me if i make any mistake.. do you think that some people simply can't cope with being outside the jws?
some of them are too worldlyphobic to be around non-jws, too dependent on a fixed set of rules in order to carry on with their lives, too dependent on the hope of paradise and resurrection, too unable to leave their personal comfort zone within the organization.

Paradiseeker,
Your English is great.
Despite the blood transfusion ban and everything else negative about the Borg, there are cases in which the pros of being in a cult are greater than the cons. As a general rule, all those older people who didn't enjoy a good secular education, have poor finances, little self worth and a superstitious nature belong to cults like the Borg. In a cult, its members have goals, self worth, purpose, hope and plenty of like minded people to confirm their belief system is the right one.

Is Happiness Without Religion Possible?
by Brian J inaccording to the 11/2017 study watchtower.......apparently not.
is it really true that one can be happy without religion?
certainly an individual can be happy without false religion, but a person cannot be truly happy unless he has a relationship with jehovah, who is described as “the happy god.” (1 tim.

Religion really makes a lot of people very happy. They travel in private jets, they live in luxurious mansions, they eat the best food, they are worry free about health care and long term care, they enjoy the good life living in lakefront properties. And the good thing is that they didn't have to work a day in their lives to get these benefits. They just had to rely in Jehovah to provide... an abundance of the meek and gullible.
